Sam Crandall is in a pop-punk band in Tucson called “Sr.” (Senior) and has been a musician his entire life. "I’ve been playing instruments basically since I was in the nursery."
"Bass guitar was my first instrument, but I’ve been evolving and learning other instruments as I go, mostly thanks to my parents who are very musical people as well. I have been in a few bands throughout the years, I was on the drum line at my high school as well as the University of Arizona, Breakthrough Indoor Percussion, all of which have helped shape this passion for music performance that I have today. My band just put out a new single called 'GOOD FOR NOTHING' which is available wherever you stream your music!"
We asked Sam Crandall 5 questions about his experiences a musician in Tucson. Here's what he said:
What's your favorite venue to play in Tucson?
Definitely Club Congress. It’s intimate but provides an atmosphere that rivals the big venues, on top of its historical significance to the city of Tucson.
What's the funniest thing that's happened during a performance?
Our drummer's crash cymbal flew off of his stand not once, but TWICE
What's your first memory as a musician?
My first memory as a performing musician goes back to my middle school days when my brother, our friend Casey and I played “Goofy Goober Rock” from the Spongebob Squarepants movie for our youth group talent show.
What's your favorite song to perform?
Our song “Love Affair”, and it’s not even close. The combination of a harmonizing guitar solo, high-energy feel, and a small sample of a complex time signature is what I think showcases what we are all about as a band.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
Don’t sacrifice your own passion because you want to be admired. Stay true to yourself, trust in your own abilities, and be genuine. People will take notice if you are unapologetically you, and that’s the beauty in not conforming to something that you aren’t. That’s what I love so much about the group of guys in Sr.. They all have such great personalities, and our band chemistry is so much better because we can all be ourselves together.
