Oh Black Sea "or OBS for short. I like the idea of using a moniker for the mix of music and poetry that I have been performing."
Want to hear their music?
We asked Oh Black Sea 5 questions about their experience playing music in Tucson. Here's what they said:
What's your favorite venue to play in Tucson?
My favorite music venue to perform at in Tucson used to be Plush, may it rest in peace. These days I’ve really enjoyed playing more intimate settings, such as Crisol Bar (Exo). There’s something exciting that happens when the line between you and the audience gets fuzzy.
What's the funniest thing that's happened during a performance?
The stage is a funny place as long as you remember to laugh instead of cry when strings, equipment, and songs breakdown on the fly. Recently, I stopped a set to sing happy birthday to someone from stage. The moment I was about to begin they spilled red wine and went running to clean it up. I was left narrating to fill the dead air while everyone waited, haha.
What's your first memory as a musician?
Some of my earliest memories include singing my heart out to Garth Brooks concerts on VHS and Billy Ray Cyrus on my grandma’s record player.
What's your favorite song to perform?
My favorite song to perform right now is Clean Elvis by Dan Reeder. It plays like a love letter.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is not revolutionary, learn from the best in your community. Support the places and people you admire and keep your ears open.
